September Startup Activities and Global Engagement

Good evening, everyone, and welcome to a new month!

As the autumn leaves begin to turn brown and sweater weather approaches, we’re here to share a cozy yet exciting recap of our September startup activities and global engagement.

During September, our organization took part in a series of impactful activities. We engaged with key startup ecosystems across Europe and beyond while reinforcing our commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration.

Horasis India Meeting

Our Managing Director started the month with a speech at the Horasis India Meeting in Athens, alongside over 200 distinguished speakers. This platform allowed us to explore opportunities to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystems of Greece and India, discussing effective government policies,.cultural alignment, and sector-specific initiatives. Our continuous work at Startup Greece aims to bridge these ecosystems through cross-border initiatives, partnerships, and knowledge-sharing events. In this spirit, we are planning to welcome Indian students as interns in Greek startups through a curated program designed to meet their needs. This will allow them to experience the Greek entrepreneurial ecosystem while contributing their perspectives and knowledge to enrich the local ecosystem.

UfM Youth Forum on Mediterranean Youth Building Inclusive Entrepreneurial Ecosystems

Meanwhile, in Helsinki, a member of our team participated in the UfM Youth Forum on Mediterranean Youth Building Inclusive Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. The event brought together youth from across the Mediterranean and policy-makers to discuss sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems. It was an inspiring event where we exchanged ideas with Finland’s entrepreneurial leaders, including Peter Vesterbacka, founder of Slush. The event highlighted Finland’s vibrant startup culture and the importance of fostering a mindset of open collaboration.

Back home, we bonded as a team during a seasonal grape harvest,.a powerful reminder of the importance of teamwork, resilience, and preparedness. Our international interns had the chance to experience a traditional Greek harvest,.enjoying the beautiful weather, complemented by local cuisine and traditional dances. The day was a celebration of our unity and determination to move forward together in an ever-changing world.

EUYOUTH4EUGOALS

As part of our curriculum, our team members participated in the EUYOUTH4EUGOALS program in Berlin. This program, focusing on SDG #10, gave our team the opportunity to explore sustainable development initiatives and engage with political leaders at the Bundestag. Discussions centred on creating a sustainable, green Europe, with participants gaining valuable insights into implementing sustainability in their professional lives.

UfM-ETF Future of Work Workshop

In the meantime, Our Intercultural Affairs Manager, Manolis Kontaxakis, attended the ‘UfM-ETF Future of Work Workshop’ in Sarajevo. Hosted by the UfM Secretariat and Co-funded by the European Commission this event focused on tackling employment challenges.in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the ILO’s vision for a “just transition to a green economy.” The workshop explored key topics like green & digital transitions, the role of Generative AI, and the future of jobs. While these innovations present opportunities, there’s a growing need for better career guidance and skilling strategies across the Mediterranean.

Connect and Experience UK 2024

The last days of the month were spent in London, where Thanos attended Connect and Experience UK 2024. London, with its vibrant startup ecosystem, is home to over 11,000 startups and a powerhouse for sectors like fintech and AI. The visit underscored the city’s role in driving tech leadership, supported by innovative hubs like NHS Innovation Accelerator and Google’s London Campus. London’s ability to attract over £10 billion in investment last year was a testament to the opportunities it offers startups looking to scale rapidly.

As we step into October, we look forward to continuing our momentum, starting with the ‘Meet Greece Startup Ecosystem’ event, and finishing with our long-anticipated Startup Greece Week in Chania, Crete!
